Amazon A-Store Script Pre-Release http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/13-Amazon_AStore_Script_PreRelease.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/13 I am pleased to announce that I am putting the finishing touches on a script that will give you a complete CMS that will give you the ability to blog, write articles, while having a complete Amazon Associate store.

The script gives you a 100% customizable template. You can add what you want where you want it.

It installs in minutes, even if you are on dial up. I have written an easy to use unzip file that will unzip the zip file to your server (after uploading).

How the CMS works: Add a blog post or article to your site. Include only ONE keyword phrase, the search term that you wish to search amazon for. The script then finds the most appropriate item that matches your keyword term and lists it on the page with your article.

When your visitor clicks, it sends them to YOUR a-store where they will continue to shop and checkout through amazon, giving you 100% of the commission.

The script works with php and cgi and requires a linux server with a minimum of php 5.1.x to operate. You also must load the ioncube loaders to your server. If you cannot get the loaders to load, I will assist you in getting the script running.

The introduction price will be only $47! An incredible savings from the competition's $197! You must self host right now. I do anticipate having hosting for sale within the next 6 months but now, it must be hosted on your server.

Subscribe to my feed to get the latest news and official release information. :-D

Blogging: Should I use Wordpress, Blogger, or other? http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/12-Blogging_Should_I_use_Wordpress_Blogger_or_other.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/12 Here is a question that I have been asked multiple times: What is the best blogging software to use?

I can answer that simply like this: It is up to the user. By far, if you are hosting your site then you need to look at the ease use. These are the questions you should ask yourself:

  • What am I going to do with my site?
  • Am I going to want to add custom programming to it? If you answer yes, can you code php?
  • What are the goals of my site?
  • How much do I really want to spend to get my site started and found by people looking for the information that I have on my site?
  • How much time do I have to promote the site that I am building?

Depending on how you answer those questions, you should start looking for your choices there. Now, let me say this. Wordpress offers an extensive plugin library and an extensive theme library. A lot of people have even purchased themes that let you edit the way that your site looks from the next one. But there are open source versions of code that do the same thing.

I personally do use Wordpress on some of my websites, however, this site is a custom coded content management system that I wrote to meet my own needs. If you can code php, your best option is code the script yourself so that you can be sure it performs to your requirements.

Having coded this script, I have customized it to the point that I get organic traffic daily. I also have coded in an xml sitemap creator and an RSS feed. I have manipulated the php code to look like RSS and XML whenever, in fact, it is a php script that is loading these pages and making them respond in a manner that is viewed as a different file type.

But, again, if you are just getting started, chances are you don't want to spend a lot of money on the site. Especially not until you get the site operational to the point that you are happy with it. And by then, you should already see a steady stream of traffic to your site and have pages indexed by the search engines. (Though this isn't too much of a problem. Even if you can't code, hiring a coder to rewrite your urls to a new location won't cost an arm and leg and can even pay off if you ever decide to change your site's theme, feel, or objectives.)

So, for the person just starting out, I do recommend getting Wordpress because it is extremely versatile. You can use wordpress as a blog or as a content management system, or even better, both. You have the ability to add pages, show your blog posts on a static page (I name mine blog), and remove unwanted pages from showing up (exclude function).

There are also numerous plugins that can give you the ability to add a shopping cart, create sitemaps, add affiliate products and much more.

The problem with Wordpress is with the search engines. I have yet to get a wordpress site to stay at the top of the search engines for my given keyword phrases. I have learned to get the pagerank of a site up, but not to keep the wp pages or posts within the top 10 results.

With my own script, I can not only get a top 10 listing but can keep the top listing forever. So, if you choose to have a custom php script written, I have this script that I have written that works great for search engine listings and gets daily streams of traffic. Contact me for details on how to acquire your own customized copy of it.

Choosing a Niche Market to Build Your Site http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/9-Choosing_a_Niche_Market_to_Build_Your_Site.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/9 What is the point of starting an online business? To make money, of course. We don't start a business just for the sake of business.

In traditional brick and mortar businesses, we have all heard the saying, "Location, Location, Location." Well, the same is almost true, except the saying should be "Keywords, Keywords, Keywords." When we start a brick and mortar business, we want to receive as much traffic as possible. If we put our business in a poor location, we can either look to barely get by or, even worse, to fail miserably.

The same is true when we start an online business. If our site gets absolutely no traffic, there is no possible way that we can look to be a success.

How do we get traffic, you say? Sure there are many black methods out there to get traffic but when you get caught (Note: I did say when you get caught, not if), you can expect to lose all search engine rankings and to lose a lot of traffic and business.

On the bright side, before we ever build our online business, we can use a couple of wonderful tools to actually build a business with the right keywords and start the business off right from the beginning. For instance, I built a site a few years back that sold green fuel technologies. Before building the site, I researched the keywords and built the site aiming for several possible keyword combinations.

Within a month of being online, I broke the $7500 mark in sales. Within 6 months, I had accumulated over $40,000 in online sales. Before the end of the first year, I was made an offer on the site that I couldn't refuse and sold the whole business out.

How do you study keywords? You can go to Wordtracker for an easy-to-use keyword analysis. You can enter a single keyword or phrase and get results of other phrases that are similar to the phrase that you enter, but get loads more traffic.

Once you have the choices narrowed down, register your domains with those keywords in the domain name. (Make sure that you don't register a copyrighted or trademark name as you will surely lose this domain in court, along with a ton of money in legal fees.)

Build your site with keyword rich content. Make sure that you have an official blog for your site so that you can update it daily or every other day. You can download Wordpress for free and use it at no charge with your site. If you are using a self-hosted shopping cart, you may have to hire a programmer to help you, but it doesn't hurt to query your database for keywords related to your blog post. Have the product link and picture appear in your post or just at the end of the post so that your visitor knows that you sell the product that they are looking for!

Continue to study keywords and build more and more pages based on current keyword analysis and you will see a steady stream of traffic visiting your site and you will also see a steady stream of customers, some for life, who will buy products from you over and over again.

Blogging for Money http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/7-Blogging_for_Money.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/7 There are many people who ask the question, "How can I make money online?" Whether you want to earn a few extra dollars monthly or want to earn a full-time living from online, you need to have a business plan into effect.

Given there are many ways to earn money onine, probably one of the easiest ways to make money online is through blogging.

What is a blog? A blog, short for weblog, is in effect a script written for you to type your thoughts about something. You can blog about the music that you like, review products, talk about a product that you have for sell, etc.

If you are starting an ecommmerce site you should consider having a blog for that site because it allows you to get more search engine traffic looking for answers about a product that you may sell. If your blog tells the benefits of why the visitor should use your products, you stand a better chance of converting that visitor to a buying customer.

But you don't have to be in ecommerce to use a blog to make money. There are several ways to make money with a blog without ever selling a single product! I am going to outline these ways below.

First, you need to have a blog. I don't recommend using a free blog such as yourname.wordpress.com or yourname.blogger.com for a couple of reasons. #1) It is extremely hard to get traffic to these. #2) It is against the terms of service for a lot of these sites to advertise products, meaning you can talk about the product but you cannot actually place an ad on the site.

You can however download Wordpress and install it on your own site and do whatever you please. Don't get me wrong, I use Wordpress on a few of my sites, but I also use a custom programmed script that I wrote on a few of my sites as well, including this one. You can download this script at http://theCollard.com.

Once you have a blog setup, sign up for affiliate programs. You can visit your favorite shopping site (WalMart.com, Sears.com, etc.) and sign up for their programs. Most of these sites have a product datafeed that you can tap into to make marketing their products really easy.

Once you have a couple of advertisers setup, build your blog. Be sure to put links to products and always place pictures into the page as well. This will increase your traffic from search engines as well.

When building a page, write about what you like or don't like about a product (sometimes negative advertising works to sell a product.)

Another way to make money with blogging is through Google Adsense. You can sign up for adsense and place an ad unit on your site. If you optimize this correctly, you can earn decent money through that program.

Finally, you can sell advertising to other sites. Other site owners will pay you to post a link to their site! Please remember that if you do this to use the nofollow tags on the link so that you or the other siteowner aren't penalized from Google.

Selling Online: Your Words Sell, Not Your Products http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/6-Selling_Online_Your_Words_Sell_Not_Your_Products.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/6 Don't be intimidated when it comes to selling products online! Anybody can do it, in fact, a caveman can do it; it only takes a little guidance to get the ball rolling sometimes.

Every internet marketer starting out needs to understand right away that the product isn't necessarily what sells 80% of the time, it is the salescopy that sells. It doesn't matter if you are selling a piece of belly button lint or the hottest new product on the face of the earth, if you don't present your product to your customer in the proper fashion you will find that you have spun your wheels.

Did you know that if you don't capture you reader's attention in the first few seconds of landing on your page, you have pretty much LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!!! It is true. Market research shows that if you don't have your visitors attention in the first 15 seconds that your success rate of converting that visitor into a customer has dropped significantly.

How can you stop this? It is actually quite simple. You must first format the page with a statement that will stick with your customer....

For example, let''s say I have a widget for sale. If you came to my site and the first few lines that you see on my site says: "Welcome to MyWidgetSite.com, home of the 49 cent widgets. Over 1,000,000,000 served." You probably were so bored by reading that lame text that you just left.

On the other hand, imagine if my site have read this:"Discover what over 1,000,000,000 are using to rocket them to fame and fortune!" That probably just caught your attention and now you want to see what the heck it is that is so amazing that over 1,000,000,000 others have had to have it as well.

That one sentence grabbed your attention and now you want more, so I am going to continue to give you more. In fact, all of my salescopy is going to use action phrases to keep you interested.

You shouldn't only use action phrases though when writing salescopy but you should also focus on the bigger picture. Gain credibility, show yourself to be the expert, and then try your socks off to convince the visitor that they cannot live without your product.

Sounds hard? It's really not. Start off by telling your background in the field of your niche product. Write 3-4 paragraphs or more strictly about your background. Then write about why you had the idea to make this product or to actively sell this product. Finally, and this is the easiest part, tell your visitor how this product would benefit them. (If you have testimonials, include a few of them here; if you don't, offer a few copies for test review with the understanding that the free copies are in exchange for a review to be used as a testimonial.)

You should never reveal your price until the very end of the salescopy and then you should start by telling your customer how much your product is worth. If you spent hours researching and developing then your product may be worth $1000. But then tell them that you understand that kind of money seems to be an awful lot to spend on it, even though this is the greatest product since the wheel. You can consider telling them you thought about letting it go for $500 but you had a premonition that you should let a handful of them go for $147 (this being the price that you really wanted to get in the first place.)

Be sure to put the sense of urgency on the matter that it is basically a now or never investment. For instance, if the visitor doesn't buy right now that tomorrow may be too late to ever get this deal again because tomorrow your price could go back to the normal everyday price of $297.

If this doesn't convince them you can follow your sales letter with a series of P.S.'s stating something to the effect of: There are two kinds of people in this world: a.)People who dream and b.)People who do! I have the feeling that you are one of the latter kind of people so the choice is yours, it is down to the wire. If you want to be a dreamer, click away now and never come back but if you want to be a person who does, don't wait for this opportunity to pass you by.

You can continue to follow up with something along those lines because the fact is, if you have held the reader that long, chances are they are pretty close to converting. You may want to follow up with a guarantee: I know this may seem like a lot of money at the moment and being a smart investor, you are probably weighing the pro's and con's. If that's the case, let me do this, I will give you a 30 day test drive. See how you like it. If you don't like it, you get 100% refund, no questions asked. Also, you should have this guarantee somewhere within the salesletter as well.

The guarantee a lot of times is the actual kicker that sells the product so be sure to stand behind your guarantee.

Sometimes it may require you getting their email addresses and selling them with a kick butt newsletter, but we will cover that in a future lesson. For now, good luck with the salescopy business and good luck selling your products.

Auto Affiliate Script Coding Underway http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/5-Auto_Affiliate_Script_Coding_Underway.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/5 My team of developers and I are currently coding away at a new project, Auto Affiliate. We are aiming to release it both as a Wordpress plugin and as a complete stand-alone script.

Also, I am looking at the options of coding it into both a drupal and joomla module though that is not expected to happen right away.

You can expect to be able to blog or write articles about specific items and a link will automatically point to the a-store on your site. People add the product to the cart and then checkout with Amazon. You don't have to worry about hosting a product or finding affiliate links. It will appear as a link to your store so that you will have a better chance at getting traffic, keeping the traffic and making the sales.

i am working on pushing the amazon cart link through a jump script so that no tracking cookies will be lost in the entire process. More to come....Stay tuned, I will need beta testers who will receive the product free of charge!

We have a test version that is operational at http://eMerchantsMall.com. The store is currently using a cgi Amazon store script with the Auto Affiliate script that has been slightly coded differently to work with the cgi script.

At this time there are no comparisons in the store pages but in the php version, the aim is to add eBay products and CJ products as well.

Amazon Associates: Beware of the New Tool Being Tested Now http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/4-Amazon_Associates_Beware_of_the_New_Tool_Being_Tested_Now.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/4 Amazon associates, want to know the new way to bring more money daily to your program? I have been busy working on a new program that will literally knock the socks off of your earning potentials.

I am working on a script that will take you to a whole new level. With it, no matter what niche you choose, you can make money!!!! There will be separate sections for you to add blog posts, videos, podcasts, and much more! I am even considering including adding classifieds to the script as well. Of course there is an amazon store script powering everything, so instead of having those affiliate links point away from your site, you keep the visitor on your site right up until the checkout!

There are a couple of similar programs on the web that do not include the features that I am including with this. They don't even begin to compare. In fact, I had a beta-tester tell me that there was no need in even trying to sell this to a lot of affiliates because they just don't have what it takes to make a successful business out of this program.

I will add a link to the released version front end demo, back end videos, and a link to the product page when it becomes available. I am shooting for 1SEPT10 as the official release date so check back toward the end of August to get your name in the hat for a FREE COPY (value $497).

Tips for Building a Niche eCommerce Site and Succeeding http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/3-Tips_for_Building_a_Niche_eCommerce_Site_and_Succeeding.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/3 Interested in starting up your own eCommerce site, and you already have a niche targeted?

If you answered yes to both of these questions, here are the things that every successful online marketer MUST know!

  1. Choose your shopping cart solution wisely! Whether you pay for the solution or use open source, your site's very being on the web depends on this! If you were to use osCommerce or Magento for instance, can you build other pages that aren't necessarily product promotions but articles to drive more traffic into your site? You can, but you have to add in several add-ons or custom program them yourself. If you use Volusion or other solutions like this, you aren't going to find the ability to do this with them without registering another domain and pointing links.
  2. You DON'T have to pay for SEO classes to get your site ranked to the top of search engines. You MUST, however, follow a few steps to getting the site ranked:
    • Adding Podcasts will attract new traffic to your site not only through search engines but if you deliver to iTunes, you have a whole new world of exposure. Build subscribers by offering informative podcasts about the product(s) you are promoting. If you can reach your user and become the expert, you gain their trust and in turn will be 9 times out of 10 more likely to get their business.
    • Adding Videos will attract traffic from people who like to see proof of what is claimed about a product or looking for instructions on how to use the product. If they don't have the product, there is a very good possibility of making the sale through this channel. This is also a great way to upsale products such as accessories.
    • Add images. Do you know how many visits per day that I get on a few of my ecommerce sites from the images alone? I know that people aren't as likely to become customers through this route, but here is the opportunity to hook them in. See next step.
    • Use Hover Ads to capture email addresses for your newsletter. Offer your visitor something free in exchange for their email address. This gives you the potential to give them incredible offers that will likely result in a huge payout!
    • Write articles. If you can't write good articles, hire somebody to do it for you. There are multiple sources to find a freelance writer. Let them research what you are selling and write the article for you. A good article should cost no more than $5-$10.
    • Have RSS feeds and an XML Sitemap. There are a few RSS feeds that your site will need to provide your visitors and Google with the information it is looking for. If you podcast, you should have an iTunes RSS feed. Your shopping cart should have a product RSS feed for Google Base. Finally, your visitors need a feed to add to their reader. This gives them the opportunity to read new information as you post it. And the Sitemap should be in place so that the search engines have access to it.
    • Give your visitors a forum. This gives them the ability to discuss the products that you have and gives you the perfect channel for interaction. You can make this a "members only" option if you are selling information products or if you only want to give your customer's access.
    • Build backlinks. You can do this very easily. I also must stress that I do not advise any of my clients or you to buy links. If the search engines find this, your site WILL be penalized and possibly banned from the SERP listings. DO NOT DO THIS! The exception: Yahoo Directory is the only exception. You can pay for a listing here and Google won't penalize but will actually increase your page rank for this listing. You can build backlinks by searching Google's blogsearch tool for relative blogs and by joining forums where you can add a signature. DO NOT SPAM blogs or forums just for links however!
    • On your product listing pages, write a unique product description. Be informative and make sure that you stress the points that makes your customer believe that they can't live without it. Remember, you may only have one shot to sell to this customer and you don't want to blow it. Give them something that will make them want to buy from you.
    • Give your users a contact form. This will give them the ability to contact you with any issues/ questions that they have regarding your product(s). If you have a couple of questions that are commonly asked, create an FAQ page with the question and the answer. Put a link to it on your contact page so that they can read through this before contacting you. If they still need to contact you, they can.
    • Use an autoresponder. Most hosting companies that provide an email account with the hosting has an autoresponder. If your email is info@yoursite.com, set up an autoresponder for that email address. You responder can have something that says (but be creative with it): We have received your question and usually respond within 24 hours. Thank you, Support Team
    • Have a Privacy Policy. Be sure to let your customers know that you are not going to share their information with another site. Make sure that they also understand that "what happens on your site, stays on your site." Nobody wants their information getting into the hands of spammers.
  3. Once you start getting traffic, you probably will want to upgrade your hosting account. Several of my clients have found that once they started getting traffic, a lot of times they would get a failure to connect to webserver. As it turns out, your hosting company usually only allows so many connections at one moment causing a failure to connect when that amount is surpassed. Nothing is more frustrating to a customer than to find a site that won't load. This could cost you a sale.
  4. Make your site easy to navigate. In other words, make sure that somebody with little computer experience can find their way around. Also make sure that it doesn't take forever for your site's pages to load. I have had clients that spent thousands for graphic design, only to find that it was overkill. Don't let this happen to you. Remember, simple sells!
  5. Be consistent when adding content. Try to add 4-5 new pages of content per week, especially if it is your goal to make the internet marketing a full-time job. The more traffic you can drive to your site, the better your odds of conversions.
  6. Don't set unrealistic expectations and be sure to be consistent. A lot of the time, people have what I like to call the "Field of Dreams" syndrome when it comes to eMarketing. The facts are, there are billions of websites on the net. When you build the site, don't expect to start seeing huge amounts of traffic overnight. Do continue to optimize your content for keywords and submit your site to the search engines. Patience pays off.
  7. Lastly, be sure to use social networking. This is the way of the future. If you don't already use Digg, Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites, you are losing out big time. New market research shows that up to 45% of site's are using social networking to notify followers of sales, promotions, and general information. It will give you more exposure to not only people but to the search engines as well. In fact, Google updates this information on page 1 with the new Caffeine program that they have!

If you haven't found a solution that will work for you, there are numerous programmers who can assist you in finding the right solution. Also, I am going to release software very soon that will give you the potential to utilize everyone of the features highlighted above. The only thing that this will not do is accept payments on your site yet, you will have to use a gateway such as paypal or Google Checkout.

If you are interested in beta-testing, contact me or visit http://phpPig.org to sign up for the newsletter where I notify of new products to test out.

Action Affiliate - New Software to Automated Affiliate Marketing http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/2-Action_Affiliate_New_Software_to_Automated_Affiliate_Marketing.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/2 Affiliate Marketing is about to get easier! I have been working for the past month programming the ActionAffiliate script that can be downloaded at http://phpAffiliateScript.com.

There are currently 3 versions of the script:

  1. ActionAffiliate Standard (which carries the name php Affiliate Script 1.7, and prior to that the script was known as CAeNS as it was listed on phpPig.org). - The Standard edition doesn't include the sitemap creator or the jump links. The Standard version does however include SEO url's, an easy to use admin area, and multiple revenue streams from cj, eBay, and Amazon.
  2. ActionAffiliate Deluxe. This script is also known as php Affiliate Script Deluxe 1.7. This script includes all of the features of the the standard edition but also includes an xml sitemap creator and jump links. The jump links allows your commission to be paid, even if your visitor has antivirus software that blocks tracking cookies.
  3. ActionAffiliate for Wordpress. This is the plugin version for wordpress. It includes the jump links and multiple revenue streams from all three of the advertiser networks. The Wordpress is compatible with WP 3.+ and down. It operates with WP shortcode where in the post, you simply type [aa keywords="Keywords"]. All three (or the ones that you have operational) will search for these keywords and return ads to your post.

These tools are available for download now. I am also working now to make versions available for Drupal and Joomla. If you have one of these content management systems, stay tuned. They should both be available before the end of August.

Google Changes Again http://scottpdaugherty.com/blog/1-Google_Changes_Again.html admin http://scottpdaugherty.com/1 Google has launched the Caffeine algorithm which takes SEO marketing to a whole new level. You are now able to use social networking sites such as facebook, twitter, digg, and others to acheive a whole lot more traffic.

The new algorithm places a couple of ads from organic listings at the top of the page. Next, you will find shopping results, news results, twiiter results, etc. on the page of listings as well. Finally it returns back to basic organic listings.

This gives a lot of webmasters a competitive edge considering their sites may not have been listed high enough in the organic results to make an impact on the traffic that they receive.

The new system allows Google to index more sites and pages daily. Instead of doing searches of the whole web now, they are able to kick back and search just a few pages at a time on each site without having to reindex a whole site. This will free them up to index new sites and pages faster.

For more information, visit Google's blog at http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/our-new-search-index-caffeine.html.
